Entry #2 - Music to my Ears

Music is a part of everyone’s daily lives. We hear it on the radio, in stores and so many other places. Enjoying music is instilled within humans at a young age. Babies, as young as five months old, can recognize beats and rhythms and try to dance to them. Although everyone can enjoy music, it has a lot more benefits than just entertainment.

I find music to be the best medicine. The moment I turn on music I really enjoy, my whole mood is changed. Save the Music Foundation, shares in their article Understanding the psychology and Benefits of Music Therapy, that music impacts numerous parts of the brain. Having multiple impacts allows for musical therapy to improve mental and physical illnesses.

What exactly is music therapy? Music therapy is the use of musical elements to improve mental health and quality of life. This form of therapy can be used to help all ages with mental, emotional, physical, social, and cognitive issues. What conditions can music therapy improve? Research has shown, according to Cleveland Clinic, that this form of therapy benefits patients with dementia, traumatic brain injuries, anxiety and mood disabilities and several others. A music therapy session involves listening to music, singing, making your own music, dancing, etc. All things you may do when listening to music on your own.

Although listening to music in your own time is relaxing, it is not the same as attending a Musical Therapy session. Despite listening to music on your own being different, it still has the ability to uplift your mood. Any time you feel you need a little pick me up, put on some upbeat music and see how your mood changes.

  1. Hello Emma, I completely agree with you! Music is the best medicine! Whenever I am feeling down, I listen to my favorite artist or when I'm driving home from a bad day a work helps me feel better. It's so amazing that music can help the human body so much that it can increase mental health.

  2. Hi Emma! This is a cool topic you chose to write about. I can definitely agree music is the best medicine and it can be such a mood changer. I did a research project on music therapy in 11th grade so I know all about it and it's truly something to learn about. Music is like a melatonin to me. I find listening to Classical or Jazz helps me fall asleep better.
